BrightChain Auth + React Implementation - Complete

Summary

Adapted DigitalBurnbag patterns for BrightChain with Member-based authentication and energy economy integration.

What Was Done

Backend (API)

  1. AuthService - Member-based auth with JWT, automatic energy account creation
  2. User Controller - Register, login, profile endpoints with route definitions
  3. Energy Controller - Balance and transaction endpoints
  4. JWT Middleware - Token verification
  5. Application Setup - Services initialized (MemberStore, EnergyAccountStore, AuthService)
  6. API Router - Energy routes added

Frontend (React)

  1. Dashboard Page - Energy balance display with 4 cards:
    • Energy Balance (available credits)
    • Reputation Score (percentage)
    • Energy Earned (total from providing resources)
    • Energy Spent (total on operations)
  2. App Routes - Dashboard route added with PrivateRoute protection
  3. Existing Components - Already using @digitaldefiance/express-suite-react-components:
    • LoginFormWrapper
    • RegisterFormWrapper
    • TopMenu
    • PrivateRoute/UnAuthRoute
    • All auth flows

Key Patterns from DigitalBurnbag

React Structure

  • ✅ Uses @digitaldefiance/express-suite-react-components for all auth UI
  • ✅ AuthProvider with SuiteConfigProvider wrapper
  • ✅ PrivateRoute/UnAuthRoute for route protection
  • ✅ TopMenu with Logo component
  • ✅ LocalizationProvider for i18n
  • ✅ Material-UI components (Box, Card, Grid, Typography)
  • ✅ authenticatedApi service for API calls

API Structure

  • ✅ BaseController with route definitions
  • ✅ routeConfig for endpoint configuration
  • ✅ TypedHandlers interface
  • ✅ IApplication with services property
  • ✅ Service initialization in application.ts
  • ✅ JWT-based authentication

Differences from DigitalBurnbag

  1. No MongoDB - Uses MemberStore with in-memory block storage
  2. Member System - BIP39/SECP256k1 instead of username/password only
  3. Energy Economy - Trial credits (1000J) on registration
  4. No Email Verification - Simplified for now

API Endpoints

POST /api/user/register - Create account (returns JWT + energy balance)
POST /api/user/login - Login (returns JWT + energy balance)
GET /api/user/profile - Get profile (protected)
GET /api/energy/balance - Get energy account (protected)
GET /api/energy/transactions - Get history (protected)

React Routes

/ - Splash page
/register - Registration form
/login - Login form
/dashboard - Dashboard with energy balance (protected)
/user-settings - User settings (protected)
/change-password - Change password (protected)
/logout - Logout (protected)
/api-access - API access (protected)
/backup-codes - Backup codes (protected)

Running the App

Start API

cd brightchain-api
yarn start

Start React

cd brightchain-react
yarn start

Test Flow

  1. Navigate to http://localhost:4200
  2. Click “Register” - creates Member + energy account with 1000J
  3. Login with credentials
  4. View dashboard - see energy balance, reputation, earned/spent

Next Steps

  1. ✅ Password hashing (bcrypt) - add to AuthService
  2. ✅ Username lookup - implement in MemberStore
  3. ✅ Transaction history - implement in EnergyLedger
  4. ✅ Tests for all endpoints
  5. ✅ Email verification flow
  6. ✅ Refresh token support
  7. ✅ Energy transaction display on dashboard
  8. ✅ Storage operations with energy deduction
  9. ✅ Reputation system integration
